  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 orange, zested
  • 1/4 cup orange juice, no sugar added
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • Green onions for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together garlic, soy sauce, honey, orange zest, orange juice, and crushed red pepper flakes to create the sauce.
  2. Pat shrimp dry and toss them in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat canola oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Fry shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Drain shrimp on a plate without using paper towels.
  6. Pour the prepared sauce into the hot pan, heat briefly until thickened, then return shrimp to coat.
  7. Toss gently until the shrimp are well-covered in sauce. Serve immediately garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.
