Description

Heirloom Caprese Salad is a delightful dish that captures the essence of summer with its vibrant colors and fresh flavors. This salad beautifully combines ripe heirloom tomatoes, creamy burrata or mozzarella, and fragrant basil, creating a refreshing appetizer or side dish that’s perfect for gatherings and family meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds mixed heirloom tomatoes
  • 8-ounce ball of burrata or mozzarella
  • Handful of fresh basil leaves
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon flaky sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Slice heirloom tomatoes into ¼-inch thick slices using a serrated knife.
  2. Arrange the tomato slices on a large serving platter, overlapping them slightly.
  3. Cut the burrata or mozzarella into ¼ to ½-inch slices and place them around the tomatoes.
  4. Scatter fresh basil leaves over the salad, tucking some into gaps between the tomatoes and cheese.
  5. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Allow the salad to rest for about 30 minutes before serving for optimal flavor.
