  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1.5 tsp cayenne pepper, adjust to taste
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté chopped onion until translucent, then add minced garlic and ginger until fragrant.
  2. Increase heat to medium-high and brown beef cubes on all sides for about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Lower heat back to medium, stir in spices and crushed tomatoes, cooking for another minute.
  4. Add water or broth to cover the meat if necessary. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover. Let simmer for at least 1.5 hours or until beef is tender.
